Why Reducing Our Carbon Footprint Is Important

When it comes to gardening, I try to reduce my carbon footprint by using pesticide-free fertilizers and making my own compost. Not only do I end up recycling more than 50% of my waste that would have ended up in a landfill, but I also get nutrient-rich compost that I can add to my soil to amend and increase the nutrients for a garden that produces large harvests. I save up kitchen scraps as well as shredding my newspapers which I can then add to my compost pile throughout the year. I find that because I am making a choice to be more environmentally friendly, I also take care to implement other things in my life such as choosing heirloom seeds for my garden that have not been genetically modified right down to switching out my lightbulbs for more energy efficient ones.

Taking small steps when it comes to being green will not only help me reduce my impact on the earth but each small step will lead to less damage created so that we can help leave  a better place for our children. By being responsible for what I can do, I am doing my part!
